Grandma’s Porch

Grandma’s porch

Makes me want to be there

Sitting in the rocking chair

The smell of apple pie in the air

Little granddaughter with her teddy bear

Sitting in the other chair

The smells of Autumn everywhere

Makes me want to be there

Grandma is no longer in her chair

The rocking chair is no longer there

One thing I have and of it I take good care

Is a box in my closet that holds the teddy bear

My Paintings

Apple Pie And Grammy

It was a cold wet and very dreary mid October day,
Noticing my granddaughters mood was kinda gray.
Many thoughts, ideas went rushing through my mind, Surely there must be something useful that I can find.

There it was on my dining room table in a ceramic bowl,
Two kinds of green apples a bit ripened but not too old.
Quickly itemizing in my head all the ingredients I'll need, I realized that I had them all and surely would succeed.

At first my granddaughter did not seem very excited,
So I threw some flour at her and she became delighted.
Next was to see who could cut the longest unbroke peel,
Her eyes lit up and a big smile, how good it made me feel.

The following fall I bought McIntosh and Golden Delicious,
A gift for my granddaughter that was totally nutritious. I am eager to explain my heartfelt desire and ambition,
How wonderful it will be to make this our October tradition.

So my dear granddaughter I will not deny,
You will forever be the apple of my eye.

  Yesterday

*

Good news more often across the air waves,

Men and women were honest, strong and brave.

Happy children with grubby little faces,

Family grocery shops in so many places.

*

Pickles and relishes in the pantry canned

Life at that time seemed ever so grand.

Pies and breads on the windows to cool,

love and kindness was the golden rule.

*

Aprons on dresses to keep them clean,

Every back door open with a wooden screen.

Young folks today will never experience,

That life’s pureness, calmness, and innocents.

*

Some of the older know just what I mean,

Not again will we live in this quaint little world,

Only by walking along in our memories dream.

Then back to reality we are quickly hurled.

But wait just a minute, please open your eyes,

You will see this wonderful life again in Paradise!
