My Cats By The Hearth

It's cold outside, the wind is blowing Freeze in the air, soon it will be snowing Nothing can be better on this whole earth Just watching my cats sleeping by the hearth

Many a cat would be filled with delight To be in a warm cozy home for the night But for them it's just a dream far out of sight Only abandonment is to be their plight

All I can offer is this plea to all of you Can you adopt a cat, or maybe even two If you have a cat, can you neuter or spayed By doing this less cats have to be saved

I feel a shiver as I hear the wind howl Oh so many cats tonight out on the prowl I am filled with thankfulness gaiety and mirth As I gaze at my at my sleeping cats by the hearth

Feeding The Birds or Feeding The Cats

While I'm filling my big bird feeder up Knowing their time to live I could disrupt Having it low enough to reach so I can fill High enough so cats don't have an easy kill

My cats have bowls of food around in the house They also have places to find and catch a mouse Winter birds have trouble finding bugs and worms Life is not so easy, it doesn't go by their terms

My cats could be so warm sleeping near the heater Instead there outside lurking under the bird feeder So am I feeding the birds or feeding my cats I wonder No matter which it is I ask, am I making a blunder

My Cats in The Rain

My cats in the rain,

Sitting on the step.

 I open the door.

She’ll come in I bet.

~*~
My cats in the rain,

Out in the street.

She needs to come in,

I’ll give her a treat.

~*~

My cats in the rain,

Her fur is all wet,

She’s starting to sneeze,

Now I’ll worry and fret.

~*~

My cats in the rain,

I think she’s got a chill.

I’ll call her in, get her fed,

Nicely then, I’ll tuck her in bed.

My Girls Stay In!

Elmira Mustafina
Cat on a Night of Snow
 *
Cat, if you go outdoors you must walk in the snow.
You will come back with little white shoes on your feet,
little white shoes of snow that have heels of sleet.
Stay by the fire, my Cat.  Lie still, do not go.
 *
See how the flames are leaping and hissing low.
I will bring you a saucer of milk like a marguerite,
so white and so smooth, so spherical and so sweet —
stay with me, Cat.  Outdoors the wild winds blow.
 *
Outdoors, the wild winds blow, Mistress, and dark is the night,
strange voices cry in the trees, intoning strange lore,
and more than cats move, lit by our eyes’ green light,
on silent feet where the meadow grasses hang hoar —
 *
Mistress, there are portents abroad of magic and might,
and things that are yet to be done.  Open the door!

A Cats Prayer

Praying Kitten - Love Meow

If it should be, that I grow frail and weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then, you must do what must be done
For this, the last battle, can’t be won.
Don’t let your grief stay your hand,
For this day more than the rest,
Your love and friendship stand the test.
We’ve had so many years,
What is to come can hold no fear.
You’d not want me to suffer, so
When the time comes, please let me go.
Take me where my needs they’ll tend,
Only, stay with me to the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you’ll see it is a kindness you do for me
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I’ve been saved.
Don’t grieve it should be you who this thing decides to do.
We’ve been so close, we two, these years,
Don’t let your heart hold tears.
Smile, for we walked together for awhile.
