Iris, The Most Beautiful Flower

Iris, most beautiful flower,
Symbol of life, love, and light;
Found by the brook, and the meadow,
Or lofty, on arable height.

You come in such glorious colors,
In hues, the rainbow surpass;
The chart of color portrays you,
In petal, or veins, of your class.

You bloom with the first in Winter,
With the last, in the Fall, you still show;
You steal the full beauty of Springtime,
With your fragrance and sharp color glow.

Your form and beauty of flower,
An artist’s desire of full worth;
So Iris, we love you and crown you,
Most beautiful flower on earth!

  1. My grandmother always had irises, violets, and pansies in a garden around her house. She loved them and so do I. I also think Dutch Irises are lovely too. I am 70 and have two sons, two daughters in law and 3 grandkids from my second son and his wife. I love my family!!

    1. Hello, I am 82, have 3 grown children, 2 granddaughters, and 5 great grand baby’s.
      I choose to plant white Irises only, the full length of both sides of my driveway. At the time I was planting them I had no idea they would spread and thicken, it was beautiful!

      1. I live in a condo with my cat. I had a Christmas lily but had to keep it where Norie couldn’t be near it since it’s poisonous to cats. I can enjoy other people’s flowers though and remember my grandmother’s too. Thanks for commenting, Eileen.

    1. Hello Selma, the Iris is one of my favorite flowers. I have some in my yard but they are not so vibrant in color, more yellow mixed with the purple. If you go to my paintings you will see my poor efforts in trying to capture this glorious flower, best regards.
