“Maid Reading in a Library” by Swiss painter Edouard John Mentha (1858-1915)

Edouard-John Menta (or Mentha) was born in 1858 in Geneva and died in 1914 (probably in Nice, South France). He was a pupil of Barthelemy Menn; began as a painter of landscapes, then – switched to genre and portraits. 
From ca. 1880, the artist lived in Nice on Côte d’Asur (French Riviera). He debuted in 1874 at an exhibition in Geneva; showed his paintings in 1887 in Venice. Later, he regularly exhibited in France. 
Today, his works achieve remarkable prices at the international art auction market
